V 70. letech vládla v Československu tuhá normalizace a došlo k tzv. baby boomu. Později bude tahle generace označována jako Husákovy děti.
V USA pokračovaly protesty proti válce ve Vietnamu. President Richard Nixon rezignoval kvůli skandálu Watergate. V Indii byla ministerskou předsedkyní Indira Gandhi. Margaret Thatcher se v roce 1979 stala první ženou v roli ministerského předsedy Velké Británie.
Frčelo disco a skupiny jako Bee Gees nebo ABBA. Objevily se punkový Sex Pistols nebo The Clash. Na začátku 70. let svět bohužel ztratil Jimiho Hendrixe, Jannis Joplin a Jima Morrisona, kteří všichni zemřeli ve věku 27 let.
V těhotenské módě došlo ke zlomu a těhotenské bříško se už tolik neschovávalo. Nosily se zvonové kalhoty, široké haleny, maxi šaty. Oblečení bylo v jasných barvách, populární byly květinové vzory.
Sukně se nosily ve třech délkách: mini, maxi a tzv. midi délka ke kolenům. Oblečení se vyrábělo z polyesteru. (To muselo být prima, být v tom navlečená celý den;-) Těhotenské haleny měly nabírané rukávy a řasení. Oblíbené byly zvonové džíny a volné těhotenské haleny.
Těhotná byla třeba Cher, Diana Ross nebo Jane Birken.
Koncem 70. let byla poprvé těhotná i dcera královny Alžběty princezna Anna.

Maternity fashion of the 70s
In Czechoslovakia we had tough normalization in the 70s and also a baby boom. Later that generation would be referred to as Husak's children. (Named after Gustav Husák - the Czechoslovakian president of that time).
The protests in the US against War in Vietnam continued. President Richard Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India. Margaret Thatcher became the first woman Prime Minister of the UK in 1979.
Disco music and bands like Bee Gees and ABBA were popular. Punk rock appeared with the bands like Sex Pistols and The Clash. Unfortunately, the world lost Jimi Hendrix, Jannis Joplin and Jim Morrison in the early 70s, all of them at the age of 27.
There was a break-point in the maternity fashion and the bump was not covered so much. Women wore bell-bottom trousers, smocks, maxi dresses. The clothes were in bright colors and flower patterns were popular.
The skirts had three lengths: mini, maxi and so called midi, length to the knees. The clothes were made from polyester. (It must be nice to be in such clothes the whole day;-) Maternity smocks had puffy sleeves and frills. Bell bottom jeans and maternity smock was a popular combination.
Cher, Diana Ross and Jane Birken are some of the celebrities who were pregnant at that time.
At the end of the 70s princess Anna, the daughter of the Queen Elizabeth II, was pregnant for the first time.
