60. léta byla nabitá událostmi. Američané bojovali ve Vietnamu. Prezidentem USA se stal John Kennedy ale jen na necelé 3 roky, protože na něj byl v listopadu 1963 spáchán atentát. Berlín rozdělila zeď. Pražské jaro v roce 1968, kdy v Československu došlo k politickému uvolnění, ukončila v srpnu 1968 okupace vojsky Varšavské smlouvy v čele se Sovětským svazem.

Natáčely se filmy jako Hitchcockovo Psycho, Formanovo Hoří, má panenko, filmy o Jamesi Bondovi. Začaly hrát kapely Rolling Stones a Beatles. A co nosily těhotné?

V 60. letech se stále ženy snažily své těhotenství schovat. Nosily se volné haleny, i když během 60. let se trochu zužovaly a žena v nich již méně připomínala stan.

Objevily se pouzdrové šaty áčkového střihu, které byly pro rostoucí bříško perfektní. Nosily se v délce ke kolenům nebo koncem 60. let i kratší.

Sukně a kalhoty pro těhotné měly již speciální pásy podobné těm, které známe u těhotenského oblečení dnes. Kalhoty měly nad pasem přidaný pás s protaženými šňůrkami, které umožňovaly kalhoty v pase utahovat dle potřeby.

Na konci 50. let a na začátku 60. let byla těhotná i tehdejší módní ikona Jackie Kennedy.

Maternity fashion in 60s

The 60s were a time of great change. Americans were in war with Vietnam. John Kennedy became a US president but only survived for less than 3 years before he was assassinated in November 1963. Berlin was divided by the Wall. Prague Spring in 1968 was a period of political liberalization in the Czechoslovakia, which was ended by the occupation of Warsaw Pact troops lead by the Soviet Union.

Groundbreaking movies like Hitchcock's Psycho, Forman's The Firemen's Ball, and the first of the James Bond series came out. Rolling Stones and Beatles started to play. And what did pregnant women wear?

In 60s women were still trying to hide the pregnancy. They wore smocks, but in 60s smocks became narrow and women wearing them looked less like in tents.

A new trend was a slim fitting sheath dress of A-line shape, which was perfect for a growing bump. The dress was knee-length, and even shorter by the end of the 60s.

Skirts and trousers for pregnant women already had special belly bands similar to the ones we know today. Trousers had an additional panel above the natural waist band with a draw string pull at the top that allowed to tighten the trousers according to the needs of growing bump. 

Jackie Kennedy, fashion icon of her time, was pregnant at the end of 50s and beginning of 60s.
