možná jste viděli stejnojmenný film. Co zažije osmiletá dívenka a její bratr jednoho léta ve 30. letech 20. století v malém ospalém městečku v Alabamě, kde jejich otec Atticus Finch obhajuje černocha obviněného ze znásilnění bílé dívky?
Harper Lee vydala knihu v roce 1960 a hned v následujícím roce za ni získala Pulitzerovu cenu. Byla to její první a jediná kniha. Tento týden se objevila zpráva, že v červenci vyjde Harper Lee další kniha Go Set a Watchman. Je to vyprávění o té samé dívce ale tentokrát o 20 let později, kdy přijede z New Yorku navštívit svého otce. Zajímavé je, že tenhle román napsala Lee jako první. Editorovi se ale líbily dívčiny vzpomínky na dětství a požádal spisovatelku, aby napsala román právě z dětství hlavní hrdinky. Původní román se ztratil a objevil se až loni na podzim.
Podle románu byl natočen stejnojmenný film, ve kterém si otce zahrál Gregory Peck. A za tuto roli získal Oscara. Postava Atticuse Finche byla inspirována otcem Harper Lee, který v roce 1923 obhajoval černošského klienta.

To kill a Mockingbird,
maybe you have seen a movie. What does experience an 8-year old girl with her brother during one summer in the 30s of the 20th century in a little sleepy town in Alabama, where their father Atticus Finch defends a black man who is accused of raping a white girl?
Harper Lee finished her book in 1960 and she got a Pulitzer price the following year. It was her first and only book. This week it was announced that a new book by Harper Lee called Go Set a Watchman will be published in July this year. It is a story about the same girl only 20 years later when she comes to visit her father from New York, where she lives. The interesting thing is that Harper Lee wrote this novel as the first one. The editor liked the flashbacks to the girl's childhood and asked Harper Lee to write a book about the girl's childhood. The original novel got lost and appeared only last autumn.
The movie was made based on the novel. Gregory Peck played Atticus Finch and won an Oscar for this role. Atticus Finch character was inspired by Harper Lee's father who was an attorney and defended a black client in 1923.
